Mission Statement

Our mission is to enrich the community with education, outreach and quality programming.

Description

WCTE, the Upper Cumberland's public television station has been a special part of the Middle Tennessee region for 30 years. Established on the campus of Tennessee Technologocial University in 1978, it is not only A public television station, but is THE public's television station and is owned and operated by the Upper Cumberland Broadcast Council. Original, locally produced programming and educational outreach continue to be at the core of WCTE's mission to serve this region. Whether it's organizing our popular children's event Stations of Imagination, promoting The Reading Rainbow Writers and Illustrators Contest, or producing one of the most watched programs of the entire summer, The Great TV Auction, General Manager Becky Magura and her staff have acquired a national reputation as the small PBS station that is known for producing big things. One of the smallest stations in the PBS family with only 12 full-time employees, WCTE has produced four programs being offered to a national audience in 2007/2008. We know that our residents have a choice...in what they watch and in what they support. WCTE is "TV worth watching & TV worth supporting". Entrenched in the Upper Cumberland region, WCTE is making a difference in people's lives through educational, informational and entertaining programming as well as many outreach events in both English and Spanish throughout the year. Great, community minded television doesn't just happen. People make it happen. People who care, people who are exceptional, people who want to do their share. Our supporters invest in WCTE in order to provide funding needed to make that difference in the life of their child...their neighbor...their community. There are many ways to support WCTE- contact us and find out where your talents fit!
