Description

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Money raised in our chapter stays in our territory to grant local wishes.

The foundation began in 1980 and has since granted over 155,000 wishes. Our chapter was established in 1983, and we have granted over 3,400 wishes. We serve all 115 counties in Missouri and 6 counties in Kansas that are part of Metro Kansas City.

Volunteers play a vital role in fulfilling wishes within our organization. Hours are flexible and all volunteers receive training. We can work with your schedule and availability and can try to find the right fit for you! We have many fun, rewarding events throughout the year to help these deserving, brave children. Because our territory is so large, we provide opportunities throughout and work with volunteers to find opportunities close to their place of residence.

Volunteers are needed in all aspects of the organization.

o Wishgranting (see below)

o Fundraising (forming a group that hosts an event or drive with proceeds donated to Make-A Wish ; ex. Penny drives, $5.00 to wear jeans day, garage sales, bake sales, spirit days . . . )

o committee members (offering time once or twice a month to meet with a group working on fundraising, internal events, etc.)

o office work (copying, putting together packets and mailings, filing)

o internal or external events (offering time once or twice a month to work at a fundraising event to spread the word about Make-A-Wish)

o speaking (attending a Speaker's Bureau training and speaking to groups about Make-A-Wish)

What is involved in Wish Granting? · Fulfilling wishes · Meeting with the child's family · Working with the child to develop their own wish experience · Acting as a liaison to the Foundation staff during the Wish process

Please email me your address and I can mail you an application and more information about the Make-A-Wish Foundation. You must be 18 to volunteer (21 to grant wishes), and a background check is required.

Thank you for your interest in our organization!
