Mission Statement

Why do we exist?

The mission of Families in Recovery is to create opportunities for healing for children and other family members affected by alcoholism and addiction. Our primary means of doing so is through education.

Description

What is the purpose of Families in Recovery?

Families in Recovery understands that living with an alcoholic/addict can cause both short and long-term harm for the well being of each family member.

Families in Recovery will provide services, education, and support to help Families in Crisis become Families in Recovery. This will be done by supporting the individual, the family, and the alcoholic/addict, in that order.

We understand that some people prefer to focus on a higher power, while others place their emphasis on the individual, while others take a philosophical approach. Rather than addressing issues of healing from a single perspective, we believe that it is only through respect for individual choice that healing can begin.

Families in Recovery emphasizes the following values:

  • Where Families in Crisis feel powerless, Families in Recovery feel empowered.
  • Where Families in Crisis feel out of control, Families in Recovery understand what can and can not be controlled.
  • Where Families in Crisis feel destined to repeat the same unhealthy patterns, Families in Recovery understand the forces at work and learn how to cope with them.
  • Where Families in Crisis feel defeated, Families in Recovery are able to go forward in life confident that they can solve each problem that comes.
