"New Horizons Center for Equine Assisted Therapy is dedicated to enhancing the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of individuals with special needs through a quality educational and recreational therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving experience."
New Horizons was formed in 2012 providing opportunities for individuals with special disabilities to enjoy the "healing power" of horses through a variety of activities. What began as a special needs riding program at Cornerstone Farm in 1996, has become New Horizons- offering opportunities for skill building and achievement to individuals of all ages who face a multitude of physical, mental and emotional challenges each day.
New Horizons offers unconditional acceptance and provides a safe, welcoming environment while our "hands-on" approach actively involves our participants, empowering them to be as independent as possible. Our very special horses allow our participants to feel a great sense of confidence and improved self-esteem. Through their patience and kindness, our wonderful horses are the key to our success!
In addition to the physical benefits of riding and driving horses, riders’ cognitive skills are challenged, coordination and fine motor skills improve, and the unconditional nature of horses encourages trust.
Whether it is time spent riding or driving, grooming the horses or just strolling the grounds and watching the horses at play, participants leave New Horizons with an strong sense of satisfaction, achievement and contentment!
