We are always looking for more foster homes so that we can help more cats. Help save the lives of homeless cats and kittens by providing a foster home. Our animals stay in foster homes until a forever home is found for them at our weekly adoption events. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats and kittens in their own home. Some kitties need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for several months. Fostering is flexible enough for most lifestyles. By offering your time, energy and home to an animal in need, you prepare the animal for adoption into a permanent home by helping them to learn to be part of a family. NBCR provides all veterinary care and medicine for foster animals, plus plenty of support to foster volunteers. How does the foster process work? When NBCR receives animals who are not ready to be put up for adoption, we contact our foster volunteers. There will be plenty of opportunities to foster, so there is no pressure to take an animal if your family situation does not allow it at a certain time. Our volunteers receive information about the animal’s condition and needs. Foster families may need to bring the animal periodically to be examined by the veterinarian, receive vaccinations or other treatment as well as public meet and greet events at the Garland PetSmart on Saturdays and Sundays If you live in the Garland or DFW area and would like to help with this rewarding task, please consider volunteering with New Beginnings Cat Rescue. Get your weekly dose of cat love from New Beginnings Cat Rescue! NBCR maintains the adoption center at the Garland PetSmart. The cats and kittens need daily attention, feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning litter boxes, and of course play and social interaction. We have cage cleaners come in twice a day. Most morning cage cleaners come in before 11am and evening cage cleaners come in after 5pm. As each cage is cleaned the kitty comes out to explore, play with toys and use scratching posts. Cleaners sanitize the cage, shake out the beds and provide clean bedding if needed, scoop the litterbox, and give the kitty fresh food and water. We train each person for this position, and while it isn't the easiest job, it certainly has its rewards! You get one-on-one time with the kitties and who appreciates a clean environment as much as a cat? If you live in the Garland or DFW area and would like to help with this task, please consider volunteering with New Beginnings Cat Rescue. Help cats find new forever homes at our weekly adoption events! New Beginnings Cat Rescue is a non-profit organization that rescues cats and kittens from local shelters when they are running out of time. We hold adoption events at the Garland PetSmart every Saturday and Sunday. Volunteer 5+ hours one or more Saturdays/Sundays each month to assist at adoptions. Duties involve setting up tables, assembling cages, maintaining cages throughout the day, playing with the cats, and educating the public about the importance of spay/neuter. Adoptions are held every Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm, but volunteers arrive 30 minutes early to set up and stay 30 minutes after to clean up. During the event, Counselors interview each potential adopter to help them find the right cat for their lifestyle/family. If the potential adopter meets all of the adoption requirements, the counselor guides the adopter in paperwork completion and makes arrangements for the cat to be taken home. Training is required for this position and you will work with a more experienced adoption counselor until you are comfortable working alone. Adoption Counselors also maintain the cages throughout the shift and play with the cats during slow times. If you live in the Garland or DFW area and would like to help with this rewarding task, please consider volunteering with New Beginnings Cat Rescue.
