Mission Statement

The goal of Shine the Light is two-fold. While showing the students their personal abilities in leadership, self-recognition, communication and accountability we hope to build a relationship between them and their mentor that grants each a journey in personal development. Being a community school, NK/O works to ensure our students are hearing a consistent message of values for strength and manifesting them among their unique talents and personalities. Each of the STL Values is for the benefit of our school community and the individual student.

Description

Shine the Light is a mentoring program that works with young boys in 3rd-5th grade. The program orients around topics that change along the months We begin with creative writing/authorship, conflict management, personal health/safety, community/environmental awareness and issues in leadership. The organization recognizes the importance of students discussing, exploring and learning about issues that connect them , as leaders, to the community at large in positive contributions.

NK/O strives to challenge our students with progressive academic education and Shine the Light continues the expectation.
