Mission Statement

To eliminate abuse and neglect in long term care facilities

Description

Trained volunteers are assigned a long term care facility near where they live or work. They are expected to visit and do other program related activies an average of 4 hrs/week. The volunteer Ombudsman visits with residents and staff on a regular basis to develop trust and collaborative relationships with residents and staff. Volunteer Ombudsman educate residents and staff about resident rights. Ombudsman mediate disputes in long term care facilities. Ombudsman investigate and resolve complaints in long term care facilities. Volunteer Ombudsman receive 36 hours of training and mentoring prior to being placed in their facililty. Volunteer Ombudsman have the opportunity to participate in ongoing inservice training, case staffings and other relevent training that might be available. Volunteer Ombudsmen are certified by the State Long Term Care Ombudsman and report to and are supervised by the Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman.
