Mission Statement
The founders of Central Maine Derby set out to provide an opportunity for women in the community to come together without fear of rejection or intolerance and learn a new sport on roller skates. CMD was established in May 2012 as a skater-owned and -operated women’s flat track roller derby league out of the greater Bangor area. In a short time, that handful of women flourished to approximately 40 active skaters, as well as a team of tremendously dedicated volunteers and referees. We held our first home bout at the Bangor Auditorium in March 2013. Our home bout season now takes place at the new Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Description
Founded in 2012, Central Maine Derby is the largest flat track roller derby league in the greater Bangor area. We are represented by individuals of widely diverse backgrounds who come together to share our common love of this sport. In addition to playing roller derby, we are actively involved in numerous community volunteer and outreach events including our Skate Don’t Hate anti-bullying program for local youths and we work with numerous community partners such as the Ronald McDonald House, the Folk Festival, and the Bangor Kiwanis. We are more than just a roller derby team, we are a large group of individuals committed to being a positive force for our community!
