First Baptist Church has partnered with the California State University, Bakersfield Community and Faith-based Partnership Initiative is a comprehensive community-based, program-specific Initiative that prepares students academically for competitive admissibility to higher educational institutions (e.g., California State University, Bakersfield).
The Initiative evolved out of a need to increase the number of underserved, low-income youth who are eligible for admittance to college. The Initiative strategically links higher education institutions at the macro-structural level with local K-12 schools, community organizations and families on the micro-structural level in an effort to deliver college preparatory services that improve a student's academic success.
The Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) at First Baptist Church is located in the city of Pittsburg, just outside of the bay area. Pittsburg has a population of 63,000 of which 32.2% are Hispanic, 31.2% white non Hispanic and 18.9% African Americans. The ACE Program at First Baptist began in 2003.
