Mission Statement
World Sport Chicago (WSC) is an independent 501c(3) non-profit organization that teaches positive values and leadership through sport. The organization acts on the belief that sport has the power to strengthen individuals, and in turn, Chicago’s communities. World Sport Chicago promotes programs and events as well as collaborates with several community partners, public agencies and Chicago’s professional sports teams to deliver impact and change. The mission of World Sport Chicago is to promote the development of sustainable sports programming that improves the quality of life for under-served youth in Chicago and at-risk communities. World Sport Chicago does this by:
Teaching life-enhancing values and character development through sport
Leveraging on-going sport programs and events to engage families and strengthen communities
Directing resources and technical expertise to communities of need for high-quality and sustainable programs
Sharing practices and innovations to develop thought leadership on the positive impact of sport
Advocating sport-for-all, regardless of physical and visual abilities
Description
All of Chicago’s youth deserve to feel safe and have big league dreams, but for many, they instead face challenges such as poverty, fractured homes, violence and lack of opportunity, that make their dreams seem beyond reach. Amidst these challenges youth need access to positive role models, productive outlets, training and support to help them reach their potential.
World Sport Chicago promotes the development of sustainable sports programming that provides opportunity for under-served youth and strengthen's Chicago communities. We envision safe access for all Chicago youth to innovative sports programming that focuses on their well-being, fosters a motivational climate, has healthy authority relationships and prioritizes teamwork and sportsmanship over the scoreboard. As opportunities for such approaches to sport increase, stronger communities can demand and create a more socially inclusive city.
Volunteers help us by serving on advisory boards, standing as mentors, leading advocacy with youth and supporting fundraisers and other special events throughout the year. We look forward to having you a part of the World Sport Chicago team.
