Mission Statement

Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) is a diverse grassroots nonprofit organization consisting of environmental and neighborhood groups, labor unions, public health leaders, people affected by toxic exposure and others. Our core values include a commitment to the practice of social justice and multiracial democracy.

SVTC embraces a vision of a future which is based on a sustainable nonpolluting economy where a healthy environmentis a right rather than a privilege. We strive to achieve this vision by being a leader--both locally and nationally--in:

  • Documenting and exposing the hazards of toxic chemical pollution;
  • Educating the community about the dangers of toxic hazards;
  • Empowering people to hold government and industry accountable; and
  • Shifting the environmental priorites of industry and government to a focus on pollution prevention and the developmentof environmentally beneficial technologies and alternatives.

Description

The Silicon Valley Toxics Coaltion is a 17 year old organization non-profit grassroots organization committed to organizing, research and advocacy. We focus on the electronics and high-tech industries to ensure high-tech growth is both sustainable and that corporations and government are accountable to communties. We combine community organizing tactics with technical analyses and a political strategy to promote pollution prevention, clean and sustainable production and expanded community and worker right to know.
