Giving hope and building a future through education!
At Raise the Roof we believe that education provides the highest return of any social investment in rural Africa. The Education Crisis
In the U.S. we're fortunate to have about 99,000 public schools. If your family has the means, you can choose from an additional 33,000 private schools. After graduating high school, you have the option to attend one of the United States' 6,700 post-secondary schools.
32 million children in Sub-Saharan Africa should be attending school.
Why aren't they? In most cases, children aren't in class because there isn't a class nearby. Some children -especially girls- aren't allowed to go to school because their families need help carrying water, taking care of babies, and putting bread on the table. While there are plenty of regions around the world where education suffers, this is one of the hardest hit.
45% of the world's out-of-school children live in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The benefits of education on crime reduction, health and mortality, and civic participation are undeniable. Education is the cornerstone of the rule of law and advancement of human rights. It is the catalyst for scientific and technological breakthroughs. Education is the root of all possibilities!
In Africa, education is the difference between eating and not eating. It is the difference between death and disease, life and health, and between child labor and freedom to be creative. Across major parts of rural Sub-Saharan Africa, access to education is next to impossible. The good news is bringing education to these regions is not some abstract, romantic notion. It is realistic, affordable, and already happening. And we know how to do it. Let us join togetheer to make a difference, one child at a time.
