Mustard Seed Fair Trade is a locally planted non profit organization in Columbia, Missouri. We seek to engage the local community in the principles and practices of fair trade. Our primary function is to develop a successful fair trade retail store that connects Columbia with the global community. We promote sustainability for artisans and farmers living in developing countries through the marketing of their goods, working to alleviate poverty in those nations. Mustard Seed Fair Trade also seeks to build partnerships with disadvantaged artisans both locally and internationally to promote the principles of fair trade through personal connections.
Started in 2008 by a group of women in Columbia, MO, Mustard Seed is a non profit retail store that sells product made by artisans around the world with the important work of maintaining their fair and just employement. By ensuring long term employment with fair wages, safe working conditions, and many other benefits, these preveriously impoversihed individuals have independence and a new life. Fair Trade primarily benefits women, many single mothers, some previously enslaved or at risk of slavery, all marginalized in some way.
