Are you an active retiree with some time to fill on a weekday morning or afternoon, once a week? If you are, then we have people who would love to spend that time with you. We serve hospice patients who don't have many visitors, who would be thrilled to see you for an hour or two each week, talking, being read to, playing cards, listening to music, watching game shows or sports, or just sharing stories. Right now we're short on volunteers who live in the Chelsea, Dexter, and Pinckney areas, and we would love to meet folks interested in visiting our seniors in those areas. Visits take place in patients' own homes, as well as nursing homes, assisted living, memory care, group homes, and hospitals. You will NOT be asked to provide any hands-on physical care to our patients, or to drive them anywhere. Seeing your smiling face is enough for them! We ask our volunteers to make a one-year commitment to volunteering with us, and in exchange are provided with thorough training, one-on-one staff support, ongoing training on special topics, appreciation events, and opportunities to socialize with other volunteers. You will be asked to complete an online application, interview, background checks, fingerprinting, and an annual TB (Tuberculosis) test. We will cover the cost of the background checks, fingerprinting and TB testing. We also throw in a lot of free food! Arbor Hospice requires that anyone who has suffered a personal loss wait a period of 12 months prior to volunteering. Thank you for considering this enriching and unique volunteer opportunity!
