Mission Statement
Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Description
Habitat’s objective is to move families out of substandard housing into simple, decent, affordable homes making home ownership a reality that would otherwise be unattainable. It works through dedicated volunteers and tax-deductible donations of money and materials. In order to serve more families, Habitat keeps its overhead costs low through good stewardship practices. Last year 93.5 cents of every dollar went into building homes. Partner families must qualify for an interest free 30 year mortgage and make a $400 down payment. Each partner family invests over 300 hours of "sweat equity" in building their home. To keep housing affordable Habitat homes are sold to partner families at below the cost of construction. Habitat homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are reinvested to build more homes inNorthSt. LouisCounty. There have not been any foreclosures in the affiliate’s history. Since 1995 a total of 73 Habitat partner families have been served in the communities ofAurora, Babbitt, Biwabik, Buhl, Chisholm, Cook, Embarrass, Ely, Eveleth,Hibbing,Mt.Iron, Soudan, Tower, and Virginia. Habitat is serving five families with homeownership opportunities in 2016 in Virginia, Hibbing and Aurora.
