The mission of ACCE is to empower and help develop wholesome functioning inner-city youth; to strengthen the bonds and ties within inner-city families; and to encourage and nurture the support network needed in disadvantaged communities to make them vibrant and self-sustaining.
The African Center for Community Empowerment is a highly acclaimed and awards winning 501?3 community based organization that was founded in Queens in 2000 to provide cutting-edge solutions to the complex delinquency problems of inner-city youth and their families.
Many neighborhoods in Jamaica and St. Albans suffer from problems associated with being economically distressed. In a perfect world, our communities would play a positive role in raising these children. We would like to even the odds for the youth in disadvantaged areas. This is why the ACCE has taken the role of providing programs to counteract these negative trends in the area.
Our four core programs are Entrepreneurship and Job Development; Youth Engagement and After-School Progams; Teen and Parent Involvement; and Community Empowerment. The center provides innovative services that have impacted over one thousand youth and community members. Currently, ACCE serves over 300 youth annually between the critical ages of 5 and 18 years old. Over the past few years, ACCE programs have resulted in a 93% promotion rate for after-school and mentoring participants and a 90% retention rate for all participants.
