Mission- VSM’s mission is to
preserve the unique heritage of the music, culture and dance of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s swi ng era and assist in the growth of the swing community worldwide through leadership, support and education.
VSM’s long term goal for achieving impact is to create, educate and grow swing communities that focus on reaching out to new people and exposing them to the music, culture and dance of the swing era. VSM strives to:
1. Serve and provide the current and new swing communities with resources to educate their people on the music, dance and history as well as help them connect with the swing community world-wide.
2. Provide a systematic way for leaders to start and grow new swing communities and help reach the broader public with the historic contribution of the swing era.
3. Partner with musicians to promote jazz era music designed for swing dancing and educate the upcoming generation of musicians about the interdependent nature of the musician and the dancer in historic swing music.
4. Reach out to the current generation of African American's, an underrepresented group in the current swing community, and reconnect them by highlighting the integral part African Americans played in the creation of swing music and dance. The original LIndy Hop Swing dance was primarily created by African Americans, but less than 3% of current dancers are African American.
