The Mission of Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care is to make quality Hospice care available to all persons, their families, and those affected by serious illness, death and dying in our community; to advocate effectively for patients’ comfort, dignity and choice; and to be recognized as the leading resource in clinical, ethical, and spiritual issues of dying and grief.
- Through leadership, creative service development, and excellence, Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care will be recognized as a leader in the hospice industry in Florida and the nation.
- Setting new standards of excellence, we will respond to the needs of our communities and be recognized as the expert in the delivery of individualized professional and support services to children and adults during life limiting illnesses, grief and bereavement.
- As a community of caregivers, the staff and volunteers of Cornerstone Hospice will be a mirror of the communities we serve, embracing diversity, committed to service innovation, and passionate about quality and value.
We are a community-based, not-for profit provider of end-of-life and palliative care support services for people with life-limiting illness.
The word "hospice" comes from medieval times when "hospitality" shelters provided rest for sick or weary travelers on long journeys.
At Cornerstone Hospice, we concentrate on meeting the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their caregivers. Hospice care allows many patients to remain comfortable in their own environment surrounded by friends and family.
Loved ones share in patient care under the guidance of the Hospice team of professionals, ensuring a fulfilling alternative to institutional health care. Hospice supports the natural progression of life and refrains from interventions that would hasten the progression toward the end of life.
Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care, formerly Hospice of Lake and Sumter, was founded in 1984 to serve patients and families seeking quality and dignity in their lives while coping with an end-of-life illness. We serve Lake, Sumter, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties in Central Florida and are licensed by the State of Florida and certified by Medicare and Medicaid.
