Mission Statement

Project Lazarus was founded in 1983 out of compassion and service to all people with HIV/AIDS who can no longer live independently, or whose family and friends can no longer take care of them.

The primary purpose of Project Lazarus is to provide continuity of care in a homelike environment. The highest goal of Project Lazarus is to enhance the quality of life for those it serves.

Project Lazarus does not discriminate on basis of age, race, religion, gender, economic status, sexual orientation, or handicap.

Description

Project Lazarus serves New Orleans and the surrounding parishes. The area has the 2nd highest incidence per capita of HIV/AIDS in the United States.

The facility currently provides housing for 24 people living with HIV/AIDS that might otherwise be homeless or have died from complications of the disease.

We are an ever evoloving program, especially as we try to accomodate the changing face of HIV/AIDS in the New Orleans metropolitan area. In addition to offering housing, disease and medication management, psychosocial counseling and pastoral support, we are proud to add substance abuse programming and housing case management to our social services.
