Mission Statement

To recruit and professionally support Respite Care Providers and promote 'strength based' support and resources for caregivers

Description

Respite
Temporary relief for caregivers and families, is a service in which care is provided to:

  • individuals with disabilities and other special needs
  • individuals with chronic or terminal illnesses
  • individuals at risk of abuse or neglect

Sib's Day Camp
Often siblings feel isolated and in the shadow of their brothers and sisters who have special needs. Sib's Day Camp is designed to give siblings of children with special needs something just for them. The monthly day camp offers opportunities for crafts, games, independent expression as well as group activities. The campers enjoy the opportunity to identify with peers who have a brother or sister with a disability in a non-threatening way. Registration is always open.

Respite Registry
Respite care is the most requested service from primary caregivers and the most difficult to access. Funding is usually so inadequate that families have to wait as long as 4 years to receive financial assistance to pay for the service. Families are also challenged to find qualified Respite Providers to deliver the direct care needed. We actively recruit individuals to provide respite care. Each respite provider who joins the registry receives an orientation and the opportunity for continued professional technical assistance and support. Contact information for respite providers on our registry is available to caregivers.

Respitality
This is an alternative to traditional respite care. Traditionally respite care is funded according to a specific diagnosis. However, often respite care is needed when there may be no diagnosed disability at all. Parents in this situation as well as parents on the waiting lists qualify for Respitality. Respitality has a community component of business collaboration. Several local businesses have agreed to provide, free of charge or at nominal cost, a variety of services that enable our agency to put together an entertainment package for the parents who qualify for the program. These packages can include dining, lodging and entertainment activities. Respitality can range from a partial day of respite to 48 hours.

Statewide Annual Respite Conference and Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund
Each year in October, Family Respite Care Services, Inc. hosts a statewide respite conference in Rock County. The Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund is available statewide to families that need to cover expenses not covered by any other funding source associated with their child with special needs. Private donations and our Statewide Annual Respite Conference raffle fundraiser fund the Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund. For more information about our programs, conference or Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund please contact our office at (608)758-0956 or visit our website at www.rockcountyrespite.org .
