Mission Statement
ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, working together for social justice and stronger communities.
Description
Washington ACORN, founded in 2000, is working to do away with myriad economic, racial, and civil injustices that affect the everyday lives of working poor families in our state. ACORN members organize democratic member-run grassroots community groups that identify and research local problems and develop direct-action campaigns aimed at institutions that are not currently accountable to the low-income majority. ACORN members empower themselves while achieving visible reforms in their communities and challenging the institutions that oppress low-income people.
