This is a 12-month commitment (04/07/2025 - 04/06/2026) The AmeriCorps VISTA member will serve a full year of service at LTSC and will work with the Resident Services staff. The VISTA member will be supporting one of our core missions to serve children and families specifically the Mi CASA (Community, Academics, Sports, Arts) youth services. As part of the Mi CASA programs, students currently enrolled come from BIPOC low-income households that live in LTSC’s affordable housing buildings in the Little Tokyo and Temple/Beaudry neighborhoods of Los Angeles. The VISTA member will be positioned to increase our engagement to families experiencing homelessness. The Skid Row neighborhood, home to a dense population of individuals and families experiencing homelessness, neighbors Little Tokyo. Therefore, we understand that there is a need to also provide BIPOC youth in this community with a safe and healthy environment to learn and develop, one not necessarily guaranteed in their home environment. For unhoused families or families living paycheck to paycheck, paying for extracurricular activities including after-school programs or sports club fees, can be challenging if not impossible. The VISTA member will support the development of procedures and systems to increase awareness of Mi CASA program and strengthen its presence in the community as a leader in youth development programs. Ultimately, leading to an increase in youth enrollment in Mi CASA programming. This translates to more community children taking advantage of sports and arts activities and more funding opportunities to continue to keep services free. Benefits as part of AmeriCorps program Childcare Assistance if eligible Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend Health Coverage Living Allowance Relocation Allowance Training Visit to get more information about the benefits offered https://americorps.gov/members-volunteers/vista/benefits Interested individuals e-mail: GHernandez@LTSC.org for further instructions.
