Mission Statement

To increase participation and retention in school music ensembles, to raise the level of their music-making, to increase students' musical and personal growth, and to retain more music teachers...through specially targeted professional development programs for music teachers.

Description

Founded in 2002, the Institute of Continuing Conductor Education (ICCE) is the only educational organization dedicated exclusively to raising the level of music making in school ensembles by working with their leaders.

We have developed a PD resource targeted to the highly specific needs of K-12 in-school music specialists. The Whole Person Method (WPM), based on an innovative pedagogy consistent with current theories of constructivism and dynamic learning approaches, is that resource. It has already proven consistently effective in a wide variety of geographic and demographic settings in helping school ensemble leaders ( sels) create significant, lasting musical improvement and continued ensemble participation. No comprehensive pedagogy for sels previously existed.

We have delivered accredited workshops for school ensemble leaders sponsored by such organizations as the Atlanta, Baltimore, Buffalo, Duluth, Houston, Kansas City, New York, and Washington, DC Boards of Education; many State Music Educators Associations, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, NY Philharmonic, and many others. In Australia: workshops for band, orchestra, and choral conductors under the auspices of the New South Wales Department of Education, the University of Sydney, and the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association.
