Description

Partners for a Healthy Louisville (PHL) was founded in 1998 through the merger of four wellness organizations in Louisville as a way of consolidating efforts. Throughout much of its history the organization has been focused on access to care. For some projects this has involved direct services (mammography in southwest Jefferson County where the highest rate of breast cancer occurred) distribution of toothbrushes to inner city youth, and organization of the first city-wide effort to immunize children against Pneumococcal disease with Prevnar. For six years, PHL provided outreach services for K-CHIP with the Louisville area Robert Wood Johnson grant for "Covering Kids." PHL ran the "Cover the Uninsured Week" activities in Louisillve for several years. Currently PHL is engaged with the Greater Louisvile Medical Society, The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, and medical students from the University of Louisville in organizing a brainstorming conference on ways to improve access to coverage for Kentucky's uninsured. This conference is set for the Galt House on April 18th 2008
