Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. The Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan is a community-based, nonprofit organization that provides direct-services to low-income households with children to address environemntal health hazards caused by substandard housing. Lead poisoning, asthma triggers, accidental injury, burns, poisonings, and poor indoor air quality are some of our concerns.
The organization offers one-on-one home assessments and support, educational classes, community awareness, and advocacy for sound policy and legislation.
We are a grassroots, storefront operation located in the heart of Grand Rapids' southeast side, with a staff of six. We especially welcome both college interns with a passion to learn and older adults interested in offering their life skills and experiences or exploring new opportunities.
