Mission Statement

The Pilipino Alumni Association of UCLA is committed to promoting the academic and professional development of the Pilipino community.

PAA provides a vehicle through which alumni, students, and friends of UCLA can perform valuable community service while providing unity, encouragement, and support for one another.

Through building a strong foundation, we will foster the growth and strength of our community.

Description

Founded in 1991, the Pilipino Alumni Association of UCLA (PAA) seeks to promote education, career development, and community service. PAA provides a vehicle through which alumni may provide educational scholarship and career resources to students and establish valuable networks with other alumni professionals.

The Value of Membership

The value of an organization lies in its members. PAA welcomes alumni and friends interested in volunteering and networking with the UCLA and Pilipino communities. Active volunteering and community service is the foundation of PAA's mission. PAA volunteers support many valuable facets of our organization.

Career Development

PAA's Mentorship Program provides students the opportunity to explore career options and receive academic and professional guidance from alumni. The program also encourages students to give back as they build their own careers. As a PAA mentor, you would lend your expertise and time to a student.

PAA's Networking Program strives to assist alumni with their career endeavors, helps new graduates start a career, and offers students opportunities for internships and summer jobs.

Academic Success & Giving

PAA's Scholarship Program is one of our most valued endeavors. PAA annually awards scholarships to recognize the outstanding achievements of UCLA students in academics, leadership, and community service. Contributions to scholarships will ensure that our students will prosper at UCLA for many years to come. In 2005, PAA established an Endowment within the UCLA Foundation, to perpetually fund scholarships to deserving students.

Cultural Unity

PAA's Annual Fundraising Benefit unites friends, family, and alumni each spring in a celebration of the contributions of UCLA's Pilipino community. Outstanding alumni and community leaders are honored each year through PAA's Distinguished Alumni of the Year and Royal Morales Community Achievement Awards. Student achievement in academics, leadership, and community service is celebrated through the awarding of the annual PAA Scholarships. Pilipino culture is highlighted through the unique performances of outstanding Pilipino artists. It is truly an unforgettable evening, filled with great food, reunions with family, friends, and alumni, entertainment, and dancing, all while raising much-needed funds for the annual PAA Scholarships.

Community Service

PAA is an ideal vehicle for alumni and friends to give back to our community through volunteerism and involvement in worthwhile programs benefitting the Pilipino community as well as the UCLA community at large.

Leadership

PAA strives to develop talented alumni leaders of all ages. We encourage you to take an active role in shaping PAA's programs by joining a great team of active volunteers. Available committees and positions include: Academic Supports, Activities, Finance, Historical, Marketing / PR, Membership / Recruitment, Mentorship, Online / Technology, Scholarship, and the Benefit Committee.

Recognition

Active Volunteers, Members, Donors, and Sponsors receive special recognition in PAA materials such as our newsletters, web site, listserve, and programs, as well as preferential pricing and seating at all events.
