Mission Statement

Wayside Waifs is a charitable animal shelter whose purpose is to place adoptable companion animals in responsible homes. To accomplish this, we employ 3 key strategies: Providing temporary shelter for homeless companion animals, Educating the public. and Developing partnerships, collaborations and strategic alliances. Wayside Waifs is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. Wayside is the largest pet adoption campus in Kansas City, placing over 5,400 animals each year in loving forever homes. Wayside does not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for animals in our care. Only animals suffering from significant medical issues or those that pose a danger are humanely euthanized. Wayside Waifs is proud to be a part of Kansas City's no kill community.

Description

Tails are wagging and cats are meowing in excitement over your participation. Volunteers and fosters play a vital role within our organization. Your support directly impacts the quality of life for the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year.

Volunteers need to be at least 16 years old, or between the ages of 13-15 with a parent, and will commit to three months of weekly shifts.

The first step toward becoming a volunteer or foster parent is to sign up for a new volunteer information session. Volunteer sessions are held three to four times a month.

At our information sessions you’ll get a chance to learn more about the programs and services of Wayside Waifs, plus what you can expect as a volunteer. After some Q&A, you can decide if volunteering at Wayside Waifs is the right fit for you. A tour of the shelter is offered as well.
