Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate the public about the joys and difficulties of living with Mastiffs, rescue, provide housing, medical care, sterilization and, finally, rehome abandonded or misplaced Mastiffs into homes where they will live as family members.

Description

Founded in 2004, GLMR, a completely volunteer based organization, grew out of the need to find approved adoptive families for abandonded Mastiffs. Due to the recent popularity of the breed, and the inexperience of giant breed ownership, many of these majestic dogs are being surrendered to shelters. GLMR provides a mentoring program for volunteers and potential adoptors, a spay/neuter program as well as educational materials for shelters, schools and the general public. Our volunteers take therapy dogs into nursing homes, classrooms and public sites, and a great deal of GLMR's efforts are directed at providing Mastiff Breed education, information on potential health problems, the difficulties of giant breed ownership to potential adoptors/owners and to raise the public's awareness to the problems of over population and the ramifications of indiscriminate breeding.
