Mission Statement

The mission of the Philharmonic is to perform symphonic music at the highest professional level to educate and entertain diverse audiences in the Pikes Peak region.

Description

The Philharmonic provides the community with a full spectrum of musical experiences including the Classical Masterworks Series, Pick of the Pops Series, Family Classics Series, Home for the Holiday Concerts, and Young People's Concerts, reaching more than 35,000 people during an eight month season, and an additional 90,000 people at the summer concerts in Memorial Park and Woodland Park.

Each season includes a special concert with an internationally recognized guest artist such as Itzhak Perlman, Andre Watts and Joshua Bell. Our annual The Nutcracker! is a major collaborative effort working with the Children's Chorale, San Diego Ballet and area ballet companies involving over 200 local children in this fully-staged performance.

In addition to the family concerts we reach out to school-aged children through the Young People's Concerts and Conductor in the Classroom which was established by Maestro Lawrence Leighton Smith and Associate Conductor Thomas Wilson, in which they demonstrate conducting technique, discuss musical interpretation and lead a rehearsal of a school band or orchestra. Conductor in the Classroom is a free program, and includes discounted admissions to regular Philharmonic concerts for student participants. Young People's Concerts have a low per student admission fee, familyconcerts are priced very affordably, and there is an extensive free ticket program benefiting underserved segments of the community.
