Mission Statement

  • To increase pubic awareness and appreciation of the Refuge.
  • To encourage public participation in prairie restoration and preservation.
  • To promote public use and enjoyment of the Refuge.

Description

The Friends, a non-profit organization, supports programs and activites on the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. The goal of the Refuge is to demonstate and study the native Iowa ecosystem before the European settles moved into the state. Land and wildlife are managed to that end. Major examples of wildlife include bison and elk with a wide varieity of birds and native plants. Significant activity focues on land conservation.
