Mission Statement
Transformation Yoga Project’s mission is to transform the lives of people within drug and alcohol treatment centers, the criminal justice system, community transitional centers, and VA treatment systems by providing yoga and mindfulness training. These tools endow people with skills for reducing stress, handling emotions, and healing trauma. By empowering those at-risk, we transform our communities and ourselves.
Description
Transformation Yoga Project succeeds through the help of community-minded individuals who can share of themselves. You can share your talent through various volunteer opportunities. You can share your wisdom through helping to organize and coordinate our many services. You can share your wealth by contributing as individuals, companies or through grants you can help us obtain. Get involved at the level that makes sense and feels right for you.
We believe that yoga creates and supports positive change from the inside out for all individuals. We recognize there are vast numbers of people who do not have access to this practice and its benefits including stress management, self-awareness, impulse control, mindfulness, and distress tolerance. We believe the health of any community is dependent on the health of all of its members.
Transformation Yoga Project implements its compassionate mission by providing yoga support services through teachers specifically trained in mindfulness based yoga for this population. In addition, Transformation Yoga Project offers training workshops and other activities for those involved in, or who want to become involved in, teaching yoga and mindfulness to those at-risk.
We are helping to raise awareness to the needs of the at-risk community and increasing the level of service activity for the at-risk community in the greater Philadelphia area.
