Mission Statement

To provide accommodation, food, counseling and compassionate care to destitute chemotherapy recipients in Ethiopia.

Description

Patients travel from all over Ethiopia to the city known as Addis Ababa, where the only Hospital with Oncology ward is located. The Hospital known as Black Lion Hospital is a government run hospital which provides free Chemotherapy treatment for the needy. But, the majority of the patients do not have the means to support their stay in the city while receiving treatment. As a result they decline treatment solely due to lack of accommodation while in the city.

After receiving physician order to admit patients from Black Lion Hospital, the patient will be admitted to the group home located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Necessary counseling will be provided to prepare patient for treatment. While in the group home, patient will receive total support from staff members in regards to bathing, feeding, dressing, grooming as needed. Patients will remain in the home until treatment is complete and physician discharge order is received.

The organization will actively recruit volunteers for the activity both in the USA and in Ethiopia. The founder/board members will travel to visit site twice yearly making sure the program is run efficiently. Frequent telephone and email communication with staff abroad will also insure program success.

The activity will be conducted by hired employees and volunteers in a group home setting which provide 24 hour non-medical care and supervision. The staff will include a Charge Nurse, a Nurse’s Aide, a cook and a driver to transport patients to and from Hospital.
