Mission Statement

Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area exists to provide non-medical support to individuals and their families during the last phases of life, to loved ones throughout the grieving process, and to educate the community regarding issues related to death and grieving. Bereavement services are available to anyone who has sustained loss either through illness or unexpectedly. HVWA is volunteer based and community funded.

Description

Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area is a licensed agency,founded in 1980. The original focus was on non-medical support to families who were facing life-threatening illnesses. An increasing need for bereavement support grew from that. Our bereavement programs now comprise a major portion of our services. We are also committed to education regarding issues related to death and grieving in our community, in all arenas.

Programs

Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area provides free services that include: volunteer peer support for clients/families faced with life threatening illness and or during the final stages of life; bereavement programs: one-on-one support, bereavement correspondence, and support groups including suicide survivors, parents, widows/widowers, teens, men, women, infant and pregnancy loss and general bereavement; camp for grieving families/individuals from anywhere in Maine; education sessions; speakers bureau; special grief program for children and teens; lending library; veterans support program; volunteers follow clients wherever they are rather at home, in the hospital or nursing homes; Hospice Volunteer training is held six times a year.
