Mission Statement

Healing, health a happiness through horses. Leave a Trail provides therapeutic riding to people with special needs and those who can benefit from horse-powered healing.

Description

Leave a Trail seeks to address a lack of access to equine therapy in local mainstream psychotherapy and healing programs. Equine therapies, and Hippotherapy (therapeutic use of horses to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input), are both well-respected treatments for Autism, and their benefits are now increasingly recognized as treating a much wider array of therapy needs.

Seeking to meet the demand for these programs, a passionate group of horse lovers and professionals joined forces, working to provide safe, fun and affordable equine therapy programs in a beautiful setting. With many of the large horse ranches on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula facing closure, Leave a Trail has partnered with Chaparral Ranch to secure a unique, healing setting, surrounded with open space land for therapeutic riding.

I have loved my time with Leave a Trail and have been volunteering long term with the organization. They have always been very flexible and understanding of my schedule. The kids we work with are great and the horses are all very sweet. It is a close-knit group of volunteers and the work we do is much appreciated. If you love working with children with special needs and being around animals it is a perfect fit! You will find yourself wanting to come back every week to a positive and supportive group of volunteers. They also give you a bit of a trial period to make sure it is the right fit for you. Definitely give it a try!
