Mission Statement

The Atlas' mission is to bring people together through the arts to share and celebrate a range of artistic expressions and traditions. In pursuit of this mission, the Atlas:

  • Presents innovative and thought-provoking performances and arts events in contemporary classical, jazz, world music, dance, theatre, film, and spoken word;
  • Offers workforce development opportunities, youth development programs, and community engagement activities; and
  • Provides valuable benefits and services to support the Resident Arts Partners it houses.

Description

Located just one mile from the US Capitol in Washington, DC’s booming H Street Northeast corridor, the Atlas is home for adventurous audiences, artists, and ideas. Our diverse performances bring exciting and thought-provoking events; our stagecraft training advances graduates in real careers; and our support for arts partners strengthens their entrepreneurial endeavors as performers, producers, and viable small businesses.

The Atlas is an artistic and cultural anchor in our neighborhood and was the catalyst for the tremendous revitalization investment currently underway. Renovated and re-opened in 2006 after the historic theater was shuttered for 30 years, we now welcome over 100,000 patrons annually.
