Mission Statement

The mission of Urban Impact is to strengthen families and raise servant leaders by building life-changing relationships that encourage good health, quality education, economic opportunity, and a Christ-centered faith.

Description

Each Urban Impact program has its own set of desired outcomes, which if realized measure our success at strengthening families, raising servant leaders, and developing disciples of Jesus.

Good Health: Rainier Health and Fitness (RHF) is a 3,700 sq ft fitness facility that encourages healthy lifestyles and strong bodies by providing access, education, and encouragement for community members. We project that Rainier Health and Fitness will breakeven from membership dues in February with roughly 850 members.

Quality Education: Urban Impact's goals for its education focused programs are improved academic performance, family centered education and youth becoming local servant leaders.

Urban Impact operates the following Education programs:

  • Tamani Project: Enhanced education through the creative arts

  • Mekong Kids!: ELL student-focused elementary afterschool program

  • Umoja Community Learning Center: City funded afterschool program at the African American Academy; focused on middle school and serving the many grandparents raising young children

  • IDEA tutoring: K-12 tutoring program

  • Urban Mondays/Roots: Youth leadership development program

  • Emerson Elementary School Family Involvement: City funded position designed to increase parental involvement in child's education

  • Dearborn Elementary School Family Involvement: City funded position designed to increase parental involvement in child's education

  • "Word Up" Summer Camp: Summer educational enhancement and leadership development day camp

We focus on engaging the entire family in the child's education and growing our youth leadership development program, Urban Mondays.

Our family support workers strive build relationships with parents and grandparents while our afterschool and tutoring programs work with their children. By then integrating the learning, we make the child's education the priority of the entire family, and equip the (grand)parents with the skills to engage the system.

Urban Mondays/Roots is a year round youth leadership development program operated in conjunction with the Perkin's Center at Seattle Pacific University. We'll take a group of 15 youth and invest in their lives for the entire school year, and then those youth will learn to give back by interning at Urban Impact's Summer Camp.
