Mission Statement

At Spero Arts Foundation, our mission is to eliminate suicide among LGBTQ youth through involvement in the expressive arts. We accomplish this through our Club Spero program. In partnership with local artist and master’s level art therapists, we create a fun, safe community of support, and promote healthy coping skill through artistic expression.

Description

The word "spero" is Latin for "hope", and hope is the core of Spero Arts Foundation. Founded in 2012 on the intention to eliminate needless and devastating suicides among LGBTQ youth of San Diego County, Spero, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, works to help these extraordinary youth develop healthy coping skills to assist them with their struggles. Through the method of art therapy and artistic expression, comprised in our Club Spero program, we aim to help them find hope, joy, and purpose in their lives.

Rather it be through media art, writing, dance, or music, all skill levels are welcome. Spero is a "come as you are" organization, embodying inclusion, creativity, protection, individuality, along with a strong sense of community and friendliness. Guided by Master-Level Art Therapists, along with talented local artist and volunteers, we have all come together to work toward one main purpose: hope.
