Description

The National Organization for Victim Assistance is a private, non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization of victim and witness assistance programs and practitioners, criminal justice agencies and professionals, mental health professionals, researchers, former victims and survivors, and others committed to the recognition and implementation of victim rights and services. Founded in 1975, NOVA's mission is to promote rights and services for those harmed by crime and crisis everywhere. NOVA's four guiding purposes are:
1.Responding directly to victims and survivors of crime and crisis
2.Advocating for victim rights and services
3.Improving the knowledge and skills of those who serve victims
4.Serving NOVA's members
NOVA's direct services to victims includes some 60,000 contacts with victims of crime and crisis every year through our resource line (1-800-TRY-NOVA). NOVA also provides direct services to victims of crime and disaster through our nationally recognized Crisis Response Team (CRT). The CRT program is comprised of trained professional counselors, all volunteers, who are sent to help communities traumatized by a catastrophe.
