Mission Statement

Earthrace Conservation works with Government Agencies to help protect wildlife and national parks. We work actively on fishery patrols in Marine Protected Areas, and on jungle patrols within National Parks. We provide assets including a 45m former US Navy ship, Rigid Inflatable Boat, Zodiac and Military UAV. We provide personnel to assist with technology such as camera traps, acoustic traps, coastal radar, FLIR and NVG. We also run a K9 Unit with 2 Handlers and a Belgian Malinois Tracking Dog to assist in SAR Operations in the jungle.

Description

Earthrace Conservation has non-profit status in USA and New Zealand. Our main asset is a former US Navy ship that has been converted into a conservation vessel. This is currently in Costa Rica, where we have an agreement with the government to provide assets and personnel to help protect their National Parks. We spend around a third of our time on fishery patrols over Marine Protected Areas, and with 2 or more government Rangers included in our team. The patrols may be ship based, RIB based or zodiac based, depending on the location and distances involved. A third of our time is spent on jungle patrols with government Rangers. On many of these we also send our tracking dog and handlers to assist in tracking and apprehending offenders. The remainder of our time is spent refitting the ship and keeping her operational and ready for the next mission. All our crew are volunteers, and they come from a wide range of backgrounds and with varying levels of skills and experience.
