Mission Statement
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."
Description
The American Heart Association, Albuquerque, NM, primarily raises funds for cardiovascular and stroke research while providing education and tools to the community to combat heart disease, stroke, childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles.
Go Red for Women is a nation-wide movement urging women to recognize that cardiovascular disease is their #1 health threat and to take care of their heart.
Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a year-round campaign focusing on childhood obesity. Teamed up with the Clinton Foundation, the Alliance aims to reverse this trend and stop the possibility that this generation of children will be the first to have a shorter life span than their parents.
Start! is a comprehensive campaign calling on Americans and their employers to create a culture of health and physical activity to live longer and more heart-healthy lives by focusing on walking and corporate wellness walking programs.
Power to End Stroke is a year-round education and awareness campaign that targets the African-American community culminating in May during National Stroke Month. African-Americans are twice as likely to experience strokes in their lifetime and in many cases, education about the warning signs of stroke can greatly reduce the risk of death and serious disability when people receive immediate hospitalization and tPA, a special clot-busting medication.
