Mission Statement

THE MISSION OF THE NORTH TONAWANDA HISTORY MUSEUM IS TO ASSEMBLE, PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND EXHIBIT COLLECTIONS PERTAINING TO THE HISTORY OF NORTH TONAWANDA, ITS PEOPLE, ANE COMMUNITY LIFE, FOCUSING ESPECIALLY ON OUR RICH IMMIGRANT HERITAGE AND ROLE AS AN IMPORTANT SHIPPING AND MANUFACTURING CENTER STRATEGICALLY LOCATED ON THE HISTORIC ERIE CANAL AND NIAGARA RIVER IN THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES. AS A RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION, WE PLAN TO BE AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL TOURISM FOCUS OF NORTH TONAWANDA AND A FOCAL POINT FOR STUDENTS OF ALL AGES TO PARTCIPATE IN HISTORICAL STUDIES AND ACTIVITIES OF THE CITY.

Description

THE HISTORY MUSEUM CARRIES OUT ITS REPSPONSIBLITIES BY ACQUISITION OF, PRESERVATION OF AND PRESENTATION OF ARTIFACTS, ARCHIVAL MATERIALS, HARD COPY PHOTOS, NEGATIVES, GLASS BLOCK NEGATIVES, DIGITAL PHOTOS, MAPS, BOOKS, ARTWORK, AND OTHER ITEMS.

THE HISTORY MUSEUM IS A RESEARCH CENTER AND ASSISTS PROFESSIONAL AND OTHER RESEARCHERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, STUDENTS OF ALL AGES, GENEALOGISTS, HOMEOWNERS, ETC. THROUGH ITS REFERENCE LIBRARY.

THE MUSEUM IS ALMOST TOTALLY FUNDED BY PRIVATE DONATIONS. THE STAFF AND MUSEUM DIRECTOR IS TOTALLY VOLUNTEER.

THE MUSEUM PROVIDES PROGRAMS RELATING TO LOCAL HISTORY, HAS NORTH TONAWANDA MUSEUM PUBLICATIONS, PROVIDES TOURS FOR STUDENTS OF ALL AGES INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF NORTH TONAWANDA.
