Senior Companion Program
Many retirees don't miss their job, but many do find that they still desire the personal satisfaction that comes along with being needed. Now with time on their hands, many turn to volunteering not only as a way to give back to their communities but also to provide a sense of purpose in their lives.
Federation of Organizations has been the sponsoring agency for the Senior Companion Program in Suffolk County since 2002. This remarkable program pairs healthy older individuals with seniors who are frail, homebound, or isolated. Companions offer friendship and support as they help their recipients remain in their own homes and live independently. Additionally, friendly visits from a Senior Companion help families have peace of mind knowing their loved ones are in good company and are safe. If eligible, Companions may earn a tax free stipend, which for many living on a fixed income can alleviate some financial stress.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be 55+, income eligible to receive stipend, in good health, motivated, enthusiastic, have a desire to help others. No background in health care needed.
