Mission Statement

Who Are We?

FEAT stands for Families for Effective Autism Treatment. FEAT of Louisville was organized in the summer of 1999 by a small group of parents seeking guidance, support, encouragement and information to facilitate treatment for their child on the autism spectrum. FEAT originated in California in 1993 and has chapters operating in many states across the nation.

FEAT of Louisville is a non-profit organization of parents and professionals dedicated to ensuring that all individuals with autism have the opportunity to reach their full potential through all forms of effective early intervention.

What Do We Believe?

  • Children with autism have deep reservoirs of potential and hidden abilities.

  • Early intervention is crucial if one hopes to achieve future independence.

  • Children with autism deserve access to scientifically proven therapeutic models.

  • Parents of children with autism need to know about available treatment options and have the right to choose those therapies that are most beneficial to their child.

Description

What Do We Do?

  • Public Relations/Awareness
FEAT provides a wide range of educational offerings for parents and individuals that have a very strong interest in autism. Each month, FEAT sponsors local or national speakers to discuss various treatment options and services for children with autism. An autism conference is held each year in Louisville to increase public awareness and provide additional education to those in the community affected by the disorder.

  • Research
FEAT constantly monitors research in new treatment options for families and distributes this information to all families so they can make an informed decision on what therapy best suits the individual needs of their child.

  • Legislation
FEAT stays abreast of state laws and regulations concerning children with autism in order to educate families on the various educational, insurance, funding and legislative issues that arise.

  • Alliances
Just as important, FEAT stays active in the community with other autism service providers to better serve their members. Making alliances and pulling together the knowledge and resources of the various groups in the Louisville and surrounding areas will ensure that FEAT remains a strong and effective advocate and
    educator.
