MAP International is a global Christian health organization that partners with people living in conditions of poverty to save lives and develop healthier families and communities. Recognized for our 99% efficiency rating, we respond to the needs of those we serve by providing medicines, preventing disease, and promoting health to create real hope and lasting change.
In 1954, the late J. Raymond Knighton answered a call in his tiny office at the Christian Medical Society in Chicago. As the director of a Christian non-profit organization that coordinated fellowships for Christian medical students and doctors, Ray had a reputation for knowing "every medical missionary in the world," so when an executive at a major pharmaceutical company wanted to donate $25,000 in surplus medicines, he knew who to call.
Knighton and his secretary spent the next three months distributing the 11 tons of medicines where they were most needed overseas, and so began the new ministry - a Christian non-profit organization providing essential medicines for mission clinics and hospitals in developing areas around the world.
In 1985, MAP moved from the Chicago area to Georgia’s Atlantic coast to position its medical distribution operations closer to the warm water ports of Savannah, Brunswick, and Jacksonville. In 2008, MAP moved into a new energy-efficient facility to expand its distribution capabilities and act as ever-better stewards of the resources provided.
Since those early days in the 1950s, MAP has delivered nearly $4 billion+ in medicines and other essential supplies to non-profit partners, mission hospitals, clinics, and medical mission teams, shipping to more than 115 countries annually. MAP has extended its focus to promote community health development and prevention of disease through offices in eight countries.
