ITA is seeking a total of 1-20 volunteer companions for our Musical Bridges to Memory program, an interactive music research program for family members and individuals experiencing cognitive decline as a result of aging. We would love to welcome you to our team! Our program could not run without the help of our amazing team of volunteers. Each week you would be paired with an older adult with dementia to participate in the program and fill in when their family member is not able to attend. The program includes a 30-minute education and discussion group followed by an interactive 45-minute music performance by a quartet of professional musicians, where family members and companions practice connecting with their loved ones using music, instruments, and movement. After the performance, members participate in a 30-minute break-out social group. Covid-19 precautions will be adhered to based off of current CDC recommendations. All volunteers, participants, and staff will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to starting with ITA. Additionally, volunteers must complete a background check. Volunteer companions will: * help set up/reset the space for the performance and breakout groups * interact with their assigned resident during the performance * act as a "stand-in" for family members not present, and * attend a training workshop on working with individuals with dementia and music engagement strategies in late April or early May. The research program will run from 2PM - 4:30PM on Fridays and Wednesdays from May through mid-August 2023.
