Mission Statement

ReadStrong 2000(aka ReadStrong Group Inc.) is a nonprofit organization providing individual reading instruction and support to elementary school students. Partnerships with businesses, churches and agencies for retired individuals will supply a volunteer base for our programs. ReadStrong 2000’s objective is to improve reading skills and provide motivational support for students struggling to reach a benchmark reading goal through the development of personal relationships and training in targeted specific reading skills. Our belief is that students who learn to develop personal relationships and improve reading skills feel the sense of pride and accomplishment that will propel them to educational success, which will in turn lead to a productive adulthood.

Description

In an effort to meet reading needs of struggling elementary school students, ReadStrong 2000 will be the resource for a trained volunteer base to provide one-on-one reading instruction and practice. Using a school’s benchmarking data, and in conjunction with a school team, including a reading specialist, a counselor and the classroom teacher, students will be selected to participate in the ReadStrong 2000 program. These students will show need in one or more areas of reading instruction. Targeted skills will be taught to students selected for the ReadStrong 2000 Tutor Time program. Students in the Lunch Buddies and Breakfast Buddies programs will also demonstrate a need for additional adult interaction (i.e. mentor). Employing research based methods of assessment and evaluation to pinpoint specific areas of deficit in reading, individual goals will be developed for each student identified for the program. Volunteers will be trained and guided in the teaching of specific skills and student interactions to gain the most impact within a one-on-one instructional setting.
