Twin Tiers Honor Flight (hereinafter "Twin Tiers Honor Flight") was organized for charitable purposes. Specifically, Twin Tiers Honor Flight’s mission is to transport local veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their services and sacrifices without any cost to the veterans.
Twin Tiers Honor Flight formed to become a part of the Honor Flight Network. Information regarding the Honor Flight Network can be obtained at their website, www.honorflight.org. The goal of Twin Tiers Honor Flight is to transport every veteran, willing and able, to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials. Twin Tiers Honor Flight feels that it is important for every veteran to visit and experience the memorial that America built in recognition of their sacrifices. Twin Tiers Honor Flight follows and abides by the Honor Flight Network Policies and Procedures.
Twin Tiers Honor Flight aims to send out as many flights per year as possible. The flights will be from airports in the Southern Tier of New York to Washington, D.C. Our first flight, from Binghamton, N.Y. to Washington, D.C., transported 79 veterans on 4/12/14. We will continue our efforts and plan our next flights. The method in which veterans will be selected for a flight is according to application, age, and terminal illness (not necessarily in that order).
The activities of Twin Tiers Honor Flight, Inc. are conducted and carried out solely by the Board of Directors and volunteers. 100% of the time of the Board of Directors and volunteers will be devoted to organizing and planning flights and fundraising activities. Twin Tiers Honor Flight will be completely funded through grants, public donations, and fundraising events.
Additionally, Twin Tiers Honor Flight will provide a service to the guardians that accompany the Veterans. Guardians participate in the day’s activities and are paired with a veteran to ensure their safety. Guardians are required to pay for their trip to Washington, D.C. Twin Tiers Honor Flight will act as a liaison, collecting the money from the guardians and applying the money directly to the costs incurred by that individual. Twin Tiers Honor Flight does not profit from the payments made by guardians.
Our priority is to transport WWII Veterans, Korean Conflict veterans, and any veteran with a terminal illness who wishes to visit their memorial. Once these veterans have been transported, Twin Tiers Honor Flight will transition to transport Vietnam Conflict and all other veterans who served, in chronological order.
