Description
Soldier ON Service Dogs, Inc. is a 501c3 not for profit Arkansas Corporation.
Twenty per cent of Iraqi and Afghanistan war veterans have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Estimates for Northwest Arkansas put the number of PTSD/TBI Veterans at 14,000. Of those, 840 (6%) would benefit from a service dog.
There are currently no service dog organizations in the Northwest Arkansas area, much less PTSD/TBI service dogs. The estimated five to ten service dogs that do find their way here are mostly from out of state. PTSD/TBI service dogs do amazing things for their veterans. They detect seizures, disrupt nightmares, call 911, reduce need for medication, mitigate anxiety, reduce stress and save families and veterans’ lives.
The operative word is trained. It takes two years of training and love to transform a pup into a trained service dog. It takes trainers, counselors, foster families, facilities, dogs, and veterans. The list of things that Soldier ON needs is long. The two biggest needs that Soldier ON has today are volunteers and money. Please consider Volunteering with Soldier ON. You can donate online today.
