Project Purple is hosting its first-ever Over the Edge event in Lincoln, NE. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers to help this event run smoothly. There are a few different positions to choose from, please read the descriptions below: 1. REGISTRATION AREA VOLUNTEERS (2+ PEOPLE) Before participants arrive: * Introduce yourself in person and perform radio check with staging area ropes volunteers * Introduce yourself to the group guides ensuring they know who is on the guide team Duties: * Use the master schedule to determine which participants will be arriving at which registration time. Ensure they are at the correct registration time and check them off as they register * Have them complete a participant waiver and bring it with them to the staging * Provide them with a wristband (if this is the method for waiver identification) * Provide each participant with a name tag that is clearly visible * Collect all droppable items from participants including phones, keys, coins, etc. * For the first 1.5-2 hours, send participants to Staging as they arrive * After about 2 hours, have participants come together in groups of 2-6 * Radio staging to see if they are ready for the next group * People will come late (and early) but do your best to keep them in their designated groups. * The goal is to move participants through the process efficiently and quickly o If participants come too early, i.e. more than 45 minutes, ask them to return at their designated registration time o Perform two-time checks every hour by recording the arrival time of two participants Registration supply checklist: * Master Schedule * Nametags (for all participants, volunteers, OTE staff, and anyone associated with event) * Participant Waivers and Wrist bands * Ziploc bags for droppable personal items * Radio to communicate with Event Manager * Cash box to collect day-of donations * Pen, sharpies, paperclips, clipboards, extra batteries (if radios need them) * OTE Provided Radio - 1 to Event Manager * At the end of the day, please be sure that the OTE radio is returned to the Staging Manager 2. STAGING AREA VOLUNTEER (1 EVENT VOLUNTEER) Duties: * Ask each participant to double-check their pockets and provide a safe place for these valuables to be stored until after the event. * Manage GoPro use & charging * Duties as assigned on-site by Over The Edge Staging Manager 3. GUIDES (2-5 PEOPLE) Duties: * Assigned to lead participant groups through different stages of the event * Registration to staging; brings groups of 2-6 to staging and returns to registration to wait for next group. * Staging to Training (roof); brings groups of 2-6 to the roof, returns to staging to wait for next group * All media personnel must always have a designated non-profit volunteer with them. 4. LANDING ZONE (2 PEOPLE) Duties: * Meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to guide them back to Staging to remove gear; * OR meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to take off their gear and run it back to the staging room. Landing Zone Checklist: * OTE provided helmet (if inside exclusion zone) 5. ROOF TOP SECURITY (1 PERSON) Duties: * High level volunteer to be stationed at the last access point to the roof to ensure that only waiver volunteers and participants can access the roof. * It is very important be assertive and confident in stopping anyone trying to gain access to the roof that should not be there. Roof Top Security Checklist: *radio 6. ROOF TOP RADIO PERSON (1 PERSON) Duties: * Volunteer stationed on the roof to let the announcer know who is rappelling, when they go over and what rope they are on * Organize participants away from the edge and ensure there is an order to who is next in line * Communicate with the Announcer/MC who is going over and who is next * OTE Techs will not be able to radio down to the announcer Roof Top Radio Checklist: * Master schedule * Clipboard/Pen * Hat/sunscreen (if hot climate) * OTE provided helmet 7. ANNOUNCER/EMCEE (1 PERSON) Duties: * It is your job is to let spectators know who is rappelling and on what rope * Have one person monitor the radio and communicate with the Roof Top Radio Volunteer on who is going over and who is "ondeck" * Announce who is currently rappelling and who will be rappelling next * Add info about the nonprofit, person rappelling or how to participate next year Announcer/EMCEE Checklist: * Speaker, megaphone or some other method to project * Radio * Master Schedule * Fact sheet * Pen, clip board, white board and dry erase markers to track rappelers * OTE provided helmets if in exclusion zone * Mechanism for shade, hat/sunscreen if hot climate 8. FLOATER (1 PERSON) EXTRA, IF AVAILABLE, TO ASSIST OTHER STAFF

There are a few different positions to choose from, please read the descriptions below: We are looking to recruit 10-12 Rope Volunteers to assist Over the Edge's technical team on Media/VIP day (24th) and Event day (25th). Although we prefer individuals who have experience working with rope, such as climbers, cavers, firefighters, and SWAT, becoming a rope volunteer is open to anyone with an enthusiastic and safety-conscious mindset. The highly trained technical staff at Over The Edge provide all training you will need during a session on the day prior to the event. Rope Volunteers will be expected to: 1. Watch a 1-hour online video before the event (if first time as Ropes Volunteer) 2. Attend a 3-hour training session day before event on the 24th (if first time as Ropes Volunteer) 3. Volunteer all day on the 25th 4. Rope volunteers will get to rappel the building as part of their training; time/weather permitting. ROPE VOLUNTEER DUTIES * Roof: Support Site Safety Supervisor at main rappel, help load participants, and coach them over the edge * Training: Support the Training Manager in training all participants before they go over the edge * Staging: Support Staging Manager, help get participants into gear and ready to go on the roof * Landing Zone: Belay ropes and assist participants when they finish their rappel

We are looking for motivated volunteers to help with this year's Big Stu's Barbecue. Big Stu’s Barbecue is a family-friendly barbecue founded in 2019 to honor the late Stu Lapidus. As a family man, Stu valued time spent with the family and barbecuing. After a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Cancer Stu sadly passed away in February 2018. We are happy to announce we will be back in 2023 with this charity family barbecue! There are a few different shifts and positions available. Groups are welcome! If you are interested, please contact Genesis Roman at genesis@projectpurple.org. Please see the volunteer descriptions below: Assistance with the food vendors Grateful Bites - 11am to 3pm (1 or 2) Forza Meats - 4pm to 8pm (2 or 3) Dessert Counter 1 person selling desserts from 1pm to 4pm and then 5pm to 8pm Auction table Letting guests know about the items, helping them sign up, etc. 11am to 8pm multiple shifts 1 to 2 people per shift 50/50 raffle Walking around selling 50/50 raffle tickets 1 person every hour making the rounds asking people if they want to participate Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Table 1 or 2 people manning the awareness table talking to people about the cause. They should be knowledgeable about Project Purple. Give out pamphlets and swag Sell T-shirts and glasses Lawn Games (pending) 1 or 2 people Running lawn games with kids like bags or Jenga or arts and crafts, etc. Event Info: This year, we will gather together again at Sketchbook Brewing, 4901 Main Street Skokie, IL, 60077 on July 8th, from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm CST. Proceeds from our event will be donated to Project Purple, a non-profit charity which helps patients and families who are dealing with pancreatic cancer, and funds grants to advance research for early detection and a cure.
