Mission Statement

Bethlehem Center Charlotte's mission is to provide educational opportunities to low-income children and families to improve the quality of their lives.

Description

Founded by United Methodist Women in 1940, the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte is part of the National Mission Institutions related to the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

In 1956, after Charlotte's Urban Renewal Program, Bethlehem Center was relocated in the "fragile" neighborhoods of Southside, Brookhill, and Wilmore where it continues to provide quality child enrichment activities for school age children and youth and strives to develop innovative programs to improve the quality of life for at-risk families.

As administrators of the Head Start program since 1983 for three (3) and four (4) year old children in 14 sites across Mecklenburg County, we provide services to more than 1000 children, youth and seniors. Included in our many programs is School Age Development which provides an After School Enrichment Program, Summer Program and Teen Program; Early Childhood Development which includes Head Start, More at Four and Extended Day; Social Services including Alcohol and Drug Education; Church Agency Relations / Community Outreach including Scholarship Education Fund, Emergency Assistance, Annual Back to School Supply Drive, Christmas Angel Tree, Thanksgiving Food Box and Senior Programs in addition to our Annual Events; The Great Derby Race, The Golf Classic, Bridge Benefit and Annual Meeting.
